I wanted to reflect, what I think is becoming more apparent in these times. The modern day killing of God and spirituality. I felt the statement needed to be bold (the figure in black), but have an understated softness that was common with Renaissance paintings. It had to capture both the fierceness and the sadness. I held off on using a glaze because I felt it would have too much of an old feel. I wanted it both old and modern at the same time.
